Ferris State Comes Up Short In One-Run Tilt Against Findlay To Close Railsplitter Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad closed out its season-opening weekend of action on Sunday (Feb. 4), falling in a 5-4 regional contest to Findlay that went down to the wire at the Railsplitter Invitational in Harrogate, Tenn.

The Bulldogs and Oilers met for the second time in as many days and Sunday's tilt came down to the final inning of play.

Findlay jumped in front early with a run in the first, but the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the top of the third to grab the lead. After UF tied it back up in the bottom of the frame, Ferris State moved in front 3-2 in the fourth before the Oilers scored twice in the bottom half of the fifth. FSU answered with a single run in the seventh to knot the game back up, however the Oilers came up with an RBI single in their final at-bat to garner the win.

Overall, the Bulldogs finished with four hits in the game. Catherine O'Donohue tripled and Jadyn Joseph doubled for FSU while Joseph along with third baseman Brooklyn Verbeek and catcher Emily Killion each drove in a run.

Senior Aryn Gallacher pitched four and two-thirds innings for FSU, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. O'Donohue threw one and two-thirds of an inning, giving up a single run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

The Bulldogs are slated to return to action with five more games Feb. 16-18 at the Music City Invitational in Smyrna, Tenn. FSU opens the event with another regional game versus Northwood on Friday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. (ET).
