Bulldog Softball Earns Day One Split At Blue Bridge Battle

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's softball team opened action in the Blue Bridge Battle near Evansville (Ind,) with a day one split on Friday (Feb. 23).

The Bulldogs topped Missouri S&T in regional action by an 8-7 score in the opener before falling to nationally ninth-ranked Indianapolis by a 6-2 margin.

In the opener, Missouri S&T put four runs on the board in the top of the first and held a 7-3 edge before the Bulldogs answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and grab the win.

The Bulldogs totaled eight hits in game one and were led by freshman Alexis Kozlowski, who had two hits, a home run and four RBI's. The Bulldogs' Catherine O'Donhue also homered while Kozlowski and Macy Verbeek both earned doubles. Verbeek also drove in two runs.

The trio of Ashley Webb, Rylie Haist and O'Donohue combined to allow two earned runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

In game two against the Greyhounds, Indianapolis put a single run on the board in the first and two more in the second along with a run in both the fourth and fifth frames. Ferris State produced a run in each of its final two at-bats. Overall, Ferris State outhit the Greyhounds 11-7 in the game.

The Bulldogs' Kozlowski along with O'Donohue, second baseman Jadyn Joseph, catcher Emily Killion and right fielder Hanna Smith all had two hits each. O'Donohue doubled, Kozlowski tripled and Killion produced an RBI in the game.

Ferris State again utilized three different pitchers in game two with Izzy Regner, Sophie Wisniski and Aryn Gallacher combining for four strikeouts and four walks while allowing five earned runs on seven hits.

The Bulldogs will face Thomas More (Ky.) and Missouir-St. Louis on Saturday (Feb. 24) in day two action starting at 3 p.m. (ET) and 5 p.m. (ET), respectively. FSU then closes the Blue Bridge Battle on Sunday (Feb. 25) against Tiffin at 11 a.m. (ET).
