Bulldog Softball Stays Hot With League Home Sweep Over Wayne State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad kept the momentum going as the Bulldogs swept Wayne State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader on Tuesday (April 9) at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids.

FSU ran its winning streak to three consecutive games by beating the Warriors 7-5 in game one along with 10-2 in five innings in game two at home on Tuesday. With the two wins, FSU has now won five of its last six games overall.

In game one, Ferris State jumped in front early with three runs in the first and two more in the second for an early 5-0 edge over WSU. The Warriors cut the margin back to a single run with four on the board in the top of the fourth, but Ferris State answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and eventually came away with the two-run triumph.

Overall, Wayne State had 10 hits in the opener compared to seven for FSU. The Bulldogs got two hits each from first baseman Alexis Kozlowski along with designated player Abby Meyer. Kozlowski knocked in three runs while catcher Emily Killion had two RBI's for FSU.

In the pitching circle, FSU's Ashley Webb threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Freshman Rylie Haist earned the win by throwing two and one-third innings, limiting the Warriors to a single earned run on three hits with one K. Finally, Izzy Regner notched the save, hurling one inning with a single earned run allowed on one hit.

The Bulldogs stuck early in game two with four runs in the first and three more in the second while building an early 7-0 advantage. FSU later added three runs in the fourth and limited the Warriors to only two runs overall on seven hits in the win.

Kozlowski drove in three runs on two hits for FSU while shortstop Emma Gillard added two hits and outfielder Maddie Gkekas notched two RBI's. Additionally, Keelin Wheaton knocked home two runs in the win while both Kozlowski and Jadyn Joseph scored twice apiece. Ferris State got triples from Wheaton and Kozlowski along with doubles by Gillard, Gkekas and Kozlowski in the win.

Senior Aryn Gallacher earned the win for the Bulldogs in the pitching circle, tossing all five innings with two earned runs allowed on seven hits. She struck out four and walked two for FSU.

The Bulldogs will host Davenport in their next league action on Saturday (April 13) at the FSU Softball Field starting at 1 p.m. (ET) for the opening game of the conference doubleheader.
