Ferris State Softball Drops Two Games To Close Regular-Season At SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team closed out regular-season play on Saturday (April 27), dropping a pair of games to Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Mich.

The host Cardinals took the opener by an 8-0 score before coming back to secure a 10-2 victory in the finale.

With the two setbacks, the Bulldogs finished as the number four overall seed for next week's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

SVSU put three runs on the board in the second in game one and added two more in the fourth and three in the sixth to win the six-inning tilt. The Cardinals posted 10 hits and got a standout performance from pitcher Emily Depew, who held the Bulldogs without a hit and struck out three with one walk in the win.

Overall, the Bulldog combination of Aryn Gallacher and Ashley Webb allowed eight runs on 10 hits with four walks and two strikeouts in the game.

In game two, the Cardinals held a 1-0 lead going into the fourth when FSU surged in front by a 2-1 score. However, Saginaw Valley State answered with three runs in the fourth and then put six on the board in the bottom of the fifth to win the game in five innings, totaling seven hits to four for FSU.

Bulldog freshman first baseman Alexis Kozlowski homered for FSU and finished with two hits while left fielder Maddie Gkekas had a hit and an RBI. Designated player Emily Killion also recorded a hit for FSU.

Depew earned her 18th win for Saginaw Valley State, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings. Aalana Kimble got the save by holding FSU off the board in one inning with a single hit allowed in addition to two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs utilized four pitchers, including Izzy Regner, Webb, Gallacher and Rylie Haist. Together, they gave up 10 runs on 10 hits with six walks and a strikeout.

The GLIAC Tournament will take place May 2-5 at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill. Fourth-seeded FSU will face fifth-seeded Wayne State in the opener on Thursday (May 2) at 12 p.m. (ET).
