Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team ranked among the nation's top 25 teams academically for the 2010-11 season.

The Bulldogs placed 25th overall in the Division II Academic Top 25 standings announced this week by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).  It marked the eighth time in the last 11 years and first since 2006 in which Ferris was listed in the annual academic listing.

Fort Lewis (Colo.) posted the nation's top overall gpa at the Division II level with a 3.715 followed by Chadron State (Neb.) and Drury (Mo.) in the top three.

FSU previously placed among the nation's top 25 academic teams under head coach Tracey Dorow for seven consecutive years from 1999 to 2006. FSU recorded the nation's highest team grade point average in 1999-00 (3.534) and placed second in 2002-03 (3.604). The Bulldogs most recently finished 20th nationally (3.350) for their efforts in the 2005-06 campaign.

Individually, nine members of the women's squad claimed GLIAC All-Academic Team accolades in 2010-11.  Seniors Andrea Clancy and Becci Houdek, junior Lindsey Pettit, sophomore Katy Fox and redshirt freshman Felicia Standley earned all-academic team status for posting a cumulative gpa between 3.0 and 3.49 overall.

Meanwhile, four others achieved GLIAC All-Academic Excellence honors for holding a 3.50 gpa or higher, including sophomores Caitlin Carmody and Kylie Muntz along with juniors Kelsey DeNoyelles and Tricia Principe.

The Bulldog women's basketball squad wrapped up the 2010-11 campaign with a 13-13 overall record.  This part year marked the 14th time in the last 15 seasons the Bulldogs have registered double-digit wins in a campaign.
