Sarah DeShone Becomes Program's First Three-Time All-GLIAC First Team Pick

Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) of the Ferris State University women's basketball team became the first three-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team honoree in program history by claiming a spot on the all-league's top team for the third year in a row as announced by the league office on Friday night.

DeShone was one of 10 players from the 16 conference schools chosen to the All-GLIAC First Team and she was also among 10 players recognized as GLIAC All-Defensive Team picks. A total of 10 others were named to the league's first, second and all-defensive teams each.

In addition to the all-conference teams, the league's head coaches picked Hillsdale junior forward Megan Fogt as the 2014 GLIAC Player of the Year while Ashland University's Suzy Wollenhaupt earned Freshman of the Year accolades and head coach Jamie Pewinski of Saginaw Valley State received Coach of the Year honors.

A four-year letterwinner and two-time All-American to date, DeShone wrapped up her career ranked among the school's top all-time leaders in a number of statistical categories including second in three-point percentage (.397), third in made three's (166), sixth in free throws made (269), sixth in assists (379), eighth in scoring (1,419) and 11th in steals (154).

This season, DeShone ranked third among the conference's scoring leaders (17.8 ppg.), third in assists (4.7 pg.) and was seventh in three-point percentage (.410) along with seventh in three-pointers made (2.1 pg.) and sixth in steals (1.8 pg.). She also led the conference and ranked in the top 10 nationally in free throw percentage (.916).

Last week, DeShone capped off her collegiate career with two near triple-double performances as the Bulldogs split a pair of league contests inside Jim Wink Arena. She had 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as FSU posted its fourth-straight win with a 59-56 home win over archrival Grand Valley State on Thursday (Feb. 27) night in Big Rapids. DeShone then came back to score a team-high 24 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in Saturday's (March 1) narrow 82-71 overtime setback to Saginaw Valley State in her final game.

As a junior in 2012-13, DeShone started all 26 games and reached double-figure scoring 24 times while attaining Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention laurels for the second-straight year along with All-GLIAC First Team kudos.

Previously, as a sophomore in 2011-12, DeShone averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 assists per contest in leading the Bulldogs to a 23-7 overall mark and the league's North Division Championship while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldog standout joins former FSU players Bridget Horwitz and Kristin Reinhart as the only three-time all-conference picks in FSU women's basketball history. She's the first to earn first-team status all three years as Reinhart was a three-time second-team pick and Horwitz twice claimed second-beam status before earning first team recognition her final campaign.

DeShone's play this past season as a senior helped the Bulldogs win four of their final five contests under second-year head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate.
