Branch & Mavis Honored As All-GLIAC Women's Basketball Selections

Big Rapids, Mich. - Two members of the Ferris State University women's basketball squad received All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors for the 2014-15 campaign in an announcement made Friday evening.

The all-conference awards were announced by the league office during the postseason GLIAC Tournament and FSU had two players honored for their performance this year.

Junior forward/center Christina Branch (Grand Rapids/West Michigan Lutheran) was an All-GLIAC Second Team choice while junior guard Katie Mavis (St. Joseph) earned all-defensive team recognition.

A total of 10 individuals were named to both the All-GLIAC first and second teams in voting conducted by the league's 16 member head coaches while 10 others claimed all-defensive team kudos.

Branch earned All-GLIAC acclaim for the second time in her collegiate career after ranking as the Bulldogs' leading scorer and rebounder this season. She averaged 11.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest during the 2014-15 season while shooting a team-high 59.4% from the floor overall.

Meanwhile, Mavis was the Bulldogs' second-leading scorer on the year at 11.5 points per game and also added two steals per game on the defensive end to go with nearly three assists and two boards per outing.

Together, the junior duo helped the Bulldogs to an 11-14 overall record and a 9-13 GLIAC slate this season. This year marks the 18th time in the last 19 years in which FSU has finished with 10 wins or more in a campaign.
