Ferris State Women's Basketball Earns GLIAC Road Win At Lake Superior State
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad got back on track with a 81-71 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over Lake Superior State on Saturday (Dec. 14) in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Bulldogs took a three-point lead at the end of the first period and led by nine at halftime before outscoring the Lakers 27-18 in the third frame en route to the triumph.
With the win, FSU improved to 6-3 overall this season.
Senior forward Riley Blair tallied a game-high 29 points for the Bulldogs in the win with FSU also receiving 16 points off the bench from freshman Chloe Idoni. FSU's Samantha Krauss added 12 points and freshman Mallory McCartney chipped in 10 points overall.
FSU shot 59% from the floor and made five three's along with a 10-of-19 (52.6%) effort at the charity stripe.
McCartney finished with seven assists for the Bulldogs as part of their 19 on the day while senior gaurd Renee Sturm totaled six assists. Sturm added sxi rebounds as did Idoni on the glass.
Ferris State also finished with nine steals and 10 blocks in the win.
Defensively, the Bulldogs limited LSSU to only 41% shooting with the Lakers going nine-of-24 (37.5%) beyond the arc and 16-of-17 (94.1%) at the line.
LSSU was led by Claire Radtke, who finished with 13 points and was one of three Lakers' players in double-figures.
The Bulldogs will head to Florida for a pair of contests prior to the holiday break with FSU slated to face Southeastern (Fla.) on Thursday (Dec. 19) and William Carey on Friday (Dec. 20) in Lakeland, Fla.
