Ferris State Stays Perfect With Regional Women's Basketball Road Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad continued its impressive early-season play, moving to 4-0 on the year with a big 97-71 regional road win over Illinois-Springfield on Saturday (Nov. 19) in Springfield, Ill.

The Bulldogs built an eight-point lead after the opening period and outscored UIS 31-18 in the second period while building a 21-point halftime advantage. FSU eventually outscored the Prairie Stars 26-17 in the final period after Illinois-Springfield had posted a slim 23-19 margin in the third.

The Bulldogs placed five players in double-figure scoring with senior guard Mallory McCartney leading the way with a team-high 20 points in addition to five assists. FSU's Chloe Idoni added 18 points while Kenzie Bowers scored 16 points. Meanwhile, the trio of DeShonna Day, Elle Irwin and Mia Riley all had 10 points apiece.

Idoni added 10 rebounds in a double-double effort while helping FSU post a 37-22 rebounding margin. The Bulldogs tallied 17 second-chance points and scored 19 points off of 14 UIS turnovers.

Overall, Ferris State shot 51.4% from the floor and went 11-of-22 (50%) from long range along with 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw stripe.

While UIS shot 53.8% overall, the Prairie Stars went only six-of-17 (35.3%) beyond the arc and nine-of-17 (52.9%) at the line.

Illinois-Springfield was led by Ariyah Douglas' game-high 29 points.

Ferris State will return home and next host Great Lakes Christian on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. (ET) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
