Ferris State Registers Home Victory To Complete Weekend Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad capped off a weekend sweep as the Bulldogs rolled to a 72-55 GLIAC home win over the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs took an eight-point first period lead and led by seven at halftime before outscoring NMU 36-26 the rest of the way to earn the victory.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 13-7 overall and 6-5 in the GLIAC.

Senior forward Chloe Idoni had another big game for the Bulldogs, totaling a game-high 30 points and six rebounds for FSU. It marked her third consecutive home contest with 30 points or more this season.

Along with Idoni, sophomore Kenzie Bowers added 12 points and nine rebounds with five assists and four steals for FSU. Senior guard Mallory McCartney engineered the offense with eight points and nine assists to go with five rebounds and three steals on the defensive end. Additionally, DeShonna Day added eight points for the Bulldogs and also came up with three steals.

Ferris State finished shooting 46% for the day and went nine-of-22 (40.9%) from long range to go with a nine-of-10 (90%) showing at the free throw stripe.

The Bulldogs held Northern Michigan to 40% shooting with the Wildcats finishing only six-of-19 (31.6%) from beyond the arc and five-of-nine (55.6%) at the line.

Ferris State finished the game with 23 assists and the Bulldogs came away with 11 steals while finishing with only 11 turnovers. FSU outscored the Wildcats 19-8 off of turnovers after forcing 17 NMU mistakes and also owned a 10-4 edge in the offensive glass while outscoring Northern Michigan 13-2 on the break.

NMU was paced by Sarah Newcomer with 20 points, which included a six-of-nine showing from the three-point line.

The Wildcats fell to 12-8 overall and 7-4 in the GLIAC with the loss.

Ferris State will hit the road next weekend for a Thursday (Feb. 2) evening tilt at Parkside following by a Saturday (Feb. 4) afternoon matchup at Purdue Northwest.
