Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad had its historic season come to an end on Wednesday (March 27) evening as the Bulldogs fell to Texas Woman's University 68-52 in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals at the St. Joseph (Mo.) Civic Arena.

The Bulldogs closed the year with a 26-6 overall record, setting a school-record for most wins in a season while also winning the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship for the first time in program history and reaching the NCAA D2 Elite Eight for the first time.

After beating Tampa in the national quarterfinals on Monday to advance tot he semifinals, the Bulldogs battled the Pioneers even thru the first five plus minutes of the game. However, early foul trouble hurt FSU and helped TWU open up a 25-16 lead after the opening stanza.

The Pioneers' lead grew to as many as 20 points in the second half before FSU trimmed the margin down to only eight points late in the third quarter. From there, though, Texas Woman's University regained a decided edge and came away with the win.

The Bulldogs got a team-high 16 points from senior guard Mallory McCartney, who played more than 38 minutes overall after being injured and forced to leave Monday's contest with an ankle injury. She played thru the pain in her final collegiate game and added four steals, four assists and four rebounds.

Ferris State also got 10 points from senior Chloe Idoni, who joined McCartney and fellow senior post player Amaka Unobagha in playing their final games in a FSU uniform. Both Idoni and McCartney concluded their careers ranked among the top players in school history.

Scout Huffman paced the Pioneers with 18 points while Ashley Ingram added 13 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Ferris State's 26 wins this season finished three more than the previous school mark of 23 points and the trip to the Elite Eight came after winning the regional final for the first time in two appearances. FSU advanced to the regional title game for the first time since 2007 and had never went further than the D2 Sweet Sixteen prior to this year's national semifinal run.
