Ferris State Women's Golf Advances To GLIAC Championship Final!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had a big day as the Bulldogs advanced to the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship final on Saturday (Aug. 26) in the second day of action at the annual league event in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldogs opened the day by finishing second overall in stroke play during morning action, advancing to the head-to-head league semifinals as one of the top four teams overall.

In the afternoon semifinal contest, the Bulldogs battled to a deadlock versus Wayne State, but came out ahead in the tiebreaker to advance to Sunday's (Aug. 27) championship final against rival Grand Valley State.

In the stroke play portion of the championship, the Bulldogs finished with a two-round total of 601 overall, trailing only GVSU, which netted a 578 team figure. The Bulldogs shot a 298 in round one and a 303 in the second round of stroke play. Wayne State was third (611) and Davenport fourth (619) in the nine-team field.

During stroke play, the Bulldogs' Lizzie Anderson earned runner-up honors with a 146 figure. She shot a 74 in round one on Friday and came back with a 72 in the second round on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, Ashley Thomasma carded a 76 in the final round after her first-round 73 to finish tied for fifth with a 149 figure.

Ferris State's Kamryn Shannon also finished in the top 10 in a share of eighth place at 152 overall, notching a 75 on Saturday after carding a 77 in the first round. Susie Gietl finished in a share of 17th place with a 157 total, posting scores of 74 in round one and 83 in round two. Kylie Walker shared 19th place with a 158 total, recording a first-round 78 and an 80 in round two.

In the semifinals, the Bulldogs got a win from Gietl by three and Anderson recorded a 10-shot victory while Shannon battled to a deadlock. FSU then claimed the tiebreaker by total strokes over the Warriors.

The event is being held this year in Augusta, Mich., with action at Stonehedge North Golf Course near Battle Creek.

Overall, the Bulldog women's golf squad has captured five GLIAC Championships in school history heading into the event and claimed the title two years ago before reaching the semifinals last season.

The final round will take place on Sunday between the Bulldogs and the Lakers in the championship final.
