Bulldog Women's Soccer Suffers 2-1 Road Setback To Northwood

Northwood's Amanda Watson tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner in the second half, as the Timberwolves handed the Ferris State University women's soccer team a 2-1 loss Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at Midland (Mich.) High School.

Ferris State's record drops to 1-9-1 overall and 1-6-0 in the conference as a result of the setback.  The victory improved Northwood's season record to 5-5-1 overall with a 2-4-1 GLIAC mark. 

The host Timberwolves opened the conference outing by scoring at 14:59 when Amanda Watson put in a loose ball off a corner kick.  Watson's goal represented the only scoring by either team in the opening 45 minutes of play.  Ferris State did manage to hold a 9-6 shots shots edge in the first half.

The Bulldogs were able to draw into a 1-1 tie 13 minutes into the second half off a long throw in as sophomore forward Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa) picked up her team-leading seventh goal of the year on senior forward Megan McCabe's (Brighton/Pinckney) assist. 

Northwood would proceed to snap the tie at the 75:19 mark when Watson netted her second goal of the match, the game winner, and 10th of the season on a breakaway.

For the match, Northwood concluded the contest by maintaining a 17-13 edge in shots, which included a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Timberwolves also totaled a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Stevie Salow (Saginaw/Heritage) registered eight saves for Ferris State in playing all 90 minutes between the posts.  Goalkeeper Emily Pierce earned the win for Northwood with a three-saves output.

Ferris State will seek to end a five-match losing streak this Friday (Oct. 9) when the Bulldogs host the Ashland Eagles in a 4 p.m. (EDT) conference match at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
