Women's Soccer Scores First But Not Enough

The Ferris State University women's soccer team started off on a positive note in Friday's (Oct. 16) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against the Tiffin Dragons by scoring the first goal, but allowed five unanswered ones to suffer a 5-1 loss at TU's Pardiso Fields in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Bulldogs snapped a scoreless tie early in the first half at 3:37 with a goal from redshirt freshman Cassie Aro (Gaines/Linden) on a header for her second tally of this season.  Junior midfielder Kara Lovelace (East Kentwood) picked up an assist on Ferris State's lone score of the contest.  FSU held on to its lead until 18:28 when Felcia Ruiz of Tiffin scored to knot the match up at 1-1 after the opening half.

In the second half, Tiffin continued to gain momentum as the Dragons scored four consecutive goals with the first two coming just over 10 minutes apart.  Ashley Davis, who netted the Dragons' third goal, also would score the contest's fourth marker in the 80th minute.  The last tally of the match would occur less than four minutes elapsed on a Lesley Dotson goal.

Ferris State was outshot 22-10 for the match, which featured a 15-6 second-half advantage by the hosts.

Senior goalkeeper Kari Alsager (Mount Pleasant) had six saves in the contest while her counterpart Lindsey Gallagher stopped four of the Bulldogs' five shots on goal in recording the victory.

Cassie Aro led the way for Ferris State with two shots on goal while junior forward Carlee Boyle (Lockport, Ill.), sophomore defender Mekyla Spraggins (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central), and freshman midfielder Logan DeClercq (Lowell) accounted for the other three with a shot on net apiece.

With the loss, Ferris State's record is now 1-11-2 overall and 1-8-1 in the GLIAC this season.

The Bulldogs will continue their current conference road swing this Sunday (Oct. 18) afternoon with a trip to Findlay, Ohio for a match against the Findlay Oilers starting at 1:30 p.m. (EDT).
