Bulldogs Add Jenna Ruimveld and Fendi Foster To 2011 Women's Soccer Class
Ferris State University women's soccer head coach Matt Kellogg hopes two more pieces to capturing a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship title and earning a berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament in the near future have been discovered with the additions of Jenna Ruimveld (Vicksburg) and Fendi Foster (Sterling Heights/Stevenson).
Both have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Ferris State and play for the Bulldogs, starting with this 2011 fall season.
"These student-athletes are another two pieces of this great (recruiting) class and will represent our soccer program well on and off the field," said Kellogg, who starts his second season at Ferris State this fall. "They both compliment our other incoming freshmen and the returning players quite well."
Ruimveld, a forward, has attained All-Wolverine Conference recognition the last two seasons (2009 and 2010) at Vicksburg (Mich.) High School. Ruimveld served as a captain for head coach Tim Hale's team as a junior in 2010 and recorded 23 points with eight goals and seven assists to claim first-team all-district recognition. The 2011 team captain garnered Most Valuable Player Award honors in her 2009 sophomore season after achieving all-conference honorable mention laurels as freshman in 2008. Ruimveld will earn her fourth varsity letter in soccer this spring and is a three-year (2007-09) cross country letterwinner.
A National Honor Society member, Ruimveld also holds membership in the National Art Honors Society and is active in the student senate. The 5-7 Ruimveld has played club soccer the last six years for TKO Premier.
The daughter of David and Ginny Ruimveld of Vicksburg, Mich., Jenna will graduate this spring and plans to pursue study nursing at Ferris State. Jenna will be reunited with her older sister, Kasey, who will be a junior on the 2011 FSU women's soccer team member.
"Jenna will be another player who adds speed to our lineup," said Kellogg, , who guided Ferris State to a 7-9-3 overall record and a fourth-place 7-6-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) North Division. "She has a proven ability to not only assist with goals, but score them as well. I believe Jenna will be productive in games when she uses her athleticism and is able to get in behind defenses and help us create scoring chances. Jenna is the type of player who makes coaching enjoyable."
Foster is a three-time (2008-10) team Most Valuable Offensive Player Award selection at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, Mich. The 5-7 defender-forward received conference all-academic honors the last two seasons and has served as varsity team captain under head coach Bob Mondoux. A three-year (2008-10) varsity letterwinner in soccer, Foster helped the Titans to both a Macomb Area Conference (MAC) and district tournament title as a freshman in 2008. She played junior varsity basketball from 2007-08.
Academically, Foster is the vice president of her school's student council and has been a student council member since 2007. The National Honor Society member was involved in the school's environmental club and captained the powerpuff football team.
The daughter of Anton and Nicole Foster of Sterling Heights, Mich., Fendi will graduate this spring 2011 and is presently undecided about her academic major at FSU.
"I'm not sure where we're going to play Fendi at this time," said Kellogg. "She has the ability to be a threat in the attack, but I also know that she can help shore up the back line. With the graduation of Kristen March in the back line, our defense will take on a new identity and Fendi could be a key part of that new look. She's a great person and also a fierce competitor that you always want to have on your team."
