Bulldogs Conclude Regular Season With 6-0 Loss To Grand Valley State

The Ferris State University women's soccer team was hopeful of putting its best foot forward in this Saturday's (Oct. 30) regular-season finale match against nationally 10th-ranked Grand Valley State, but the Lakers had both offense and defense on their side in a convincing 6-0 decision over the Bulldogs in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match at the GVSU Soccer Field in Allendale, Mich.

Ferris State, which concludes the regular season at 7-8-3 overall and 7-6-2 in the GLIAC's North Division, will now get set to compete in the 2010 GLIAC Tournament which gets underway next Tuesday (Nov. 2) with quarterfinal-round competition against an opponent yet to be determined.  To date, the Bulldogs will in all likelihood be playing on the road as the remainder of the regular-season conference action concludes this Sunday (Oct. 31).

Grand Valley State wasn't little time taking the lead as the Lakers scored just 2:15 into the match on the first of two Kayla Addison goals on the day.  GVSU, which would go on to notch its 14th shutout this fall while not allowing a single goal at home this season, scored two more times in the opening half at 24:56 and 34:01, respectively.  Jaleen Dingledine netted the first one before Taylor Callen tallied with 10:59 remining in the first half in what would represent her first of two scores for the contest.

In the second half, the Lakers would produce three more goals as Kayla Addision scored at 52:26 and then Taylor Callen was able to kick one past freshman goalkeeper Rachel McCollum (Grand Blanc) to give the hosts a 5-0 advantage with a little over 23 minutes left to be played.  The final goal would come at the 70:43 mark as Ashley Botts connected for Grand Valley State, which would outshoot the Bulldogs by a 24-7 margin.  GVSU also claimed a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.

For Ferris State, senior defender-midfielder Kristen March (Canton/Plymouth Salem) along with senior midfielder Megan Stec (Novi), freshman defender Amanda Foster (Byron Center/Grand Rapids South Christian), and sophomore forward Cassie Aro (Gaines/Linden) all chalked up one shot on goal apiece.

Rachel McCollum (7-8-3) was tagged with the loss and turned aside 10 GVSU shots on goal while Chelsea Parise picked up the win in net for the Lakers by stopping all four shots faced.

Ferris State entered the regular-season tilt versus Grand Valley State ranked ninth in this week's (Oc. 27) NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Midwest Region Rankings.  Grand Valley State, which captured the 2010 GLIAC Regular-Season Championship title, is 15-1-2 overall and 12-1-2 in the conference to date with the decision.
