Bri Borgman Named To Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team

Junior Bri Borgman (Holland/West Ottawa) of the Ferris State University women's soccer team has been named to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN Academic All-District IV College Division Third Team for women's soccer as selected by CoSIDA.  The all-district teams were announced Tuesday (Nov. 2) by the Academic All-America Committee. 

Borgman, an elementary education major, was among 16 student-athletes to earn third-team district IV recognition within the college division, which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III schools along with NAIA and NJCAA programs.

This season, Borgman led Ferris State in scoring with 23 points on a team-high 10 goals with three assists in 19 matches.  The 2009 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First-Team selection also tallied a squad-best three game-winning goals and generated at least a point in seven contests, which included a three-goal, one assist output in a 5-0 conference home decision over Lake Erie this season (Sept. 26).  The 5-5 forward also tallied a pair of goals in match on two occasions - at Michigan Tech (Sept. 19) and against Michigan Tech (Oct. 15).  Borgman's 23 points tied for the 11th most among FSU's all-time single-season leaders while her 10 markers represented a tie for ninth best in the program's history.  

Nationally, Borgman ranks 73rd in total points (23.0) while being listed 79th in goals per game (0.556) and 102nd place in points per game (1.28) through matches of Oct. 31.  

Among Ferris State's career leaders, Borgman presently is tied for second in game-winning goals (eight), fifth in both goals scored (25) and minutes played (4,384), and seventh in points (56).  She has competed in 56 career matches to date, which includes 4,384 total minutes of playing time.  Borgman, a 2009 GLIAC All-Academic Team member, also received 2009 Daktronics, Inc., Midwest Region Second-Team laurels and was tabbed as FSU's Offensive Attacking Player of the Year last season.  

To be considered, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average, have reached sophomore standing both academically and athletically, have completed at least one full academic year at their current institution, and participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions.

The District IV team is comprised of colleges in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.  The three teams with each district are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within their respective districts.
