FSU Soccer Battles Tiffin To Double OT Tie

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against the Tiffin Dragons at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

The tie brings the Bulldogs' record to 7-7-3 overall and 7-4-3 in GLIAC action. Tiffin's record is now 7-6-3 overall and 6-4-2 in conference play.

Both goals were scored in the first half. Tiffin opened the scoring at the 18:05 mark of the first half as Amanda Case tapped the ball in past Ferris sophmore netminder Rachel McCollum (Grand Blanc).

Bulldog senior forward Bri Borgman (Holland) answered back at the 33:55 mark as she kicked one past the Tiffin netminder off a corner kick from senior defender Mekyla Spraggins (Grand Rapids). The goal marks Borgman's 10th of the season as Spraggins notched her third helper in the 2011 campaign.

The second half remained scoreless as the two teams battled to a double-overtime 1-1 draw.

The physical match saw 26 fouls with the Bulldogs accounting for 18.

McCollum made three saves in the draw with one in the first half and two in the second. The Dragons' goalkeeper, Lindsey Gallagher, made seven saves with a match-high three in the first half, two in the second frame and one save apiece in each overtime period.

The Bulldogs had a significant shot advantage with the shot count 18-4 in favor of Ferris State. FSU tallied 10 shots in the first half and five in the second.

Ferris State will next hit the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 29, as they host the Grand Valley State Lakers in a 12 p.m. (EDT) contest at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids. The match marks the last regular-season home contest of the 2011 season. Earlier this season (9/28), the Bulldogs fell 3-1 to the defending national champions in Allendale.
