Nichole Boehnke's Two Goals Lift Ferris State Soccer To GLIAC Road Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of goals from sophomore Nichole Boehnke lifted the Ferris State University women's soccer team to its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory of the year on Sunday (Sept. 22) as FSU shutout Ashland 2-0 on the road in Ashland, Ohio.

Boehnke struck twice late in the first half for two unassisted goals as the Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play following their weekend trip to Ohio.

Her first goal came at 30:54 on a shot straight to the back with the second marker coming at 41:38 off her own rebound.

Boehnke, who also had FSU's lone goal in Friday's loss to Ohio Dominican, registered a match-best five shots on goal as the Bulldogs topped the Eagles on the road.  FSU also received five total shots with three on goal from freshman Meredith Smith.

Overall, Ferris State held a 12-5 edge in total shots and the Bulldogs had nine on net compared to only one for the Eagles.

Freshman Savanna Wojtanowski played the entire 90 minutes in net and made a single save for the Bulldogs in earning the win to improve to 2-1 overall this season.

Meanwhile, Ashland's Rebecca Plescia fell to 1-3-1 overall as she allowed two goals and made seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Ferris State held a slim 6-5 margin in corner kick tries and the Bulldogs were called for 14 fouls to 11 for Ashland in the contest at Ferguson Field.

The Bulldogs continue a four-match league road swing by visiting Northwood on Friday, Sept. 27, for a 2 p.m. (ET) league encounter in Midland.  FSU then faces Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, Sept. 29, starting at 12 p.m. (ET) in University Center, Mich.
