Ferris State Soccer Stretches Win Streak To Four-Straight Win Neutral Site Victory

Hammond, Ind. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team pushed its winning streak to four with a 2-0 win over the Illinois-Springfield (UIS) Prairie Stars in non-conference regional neutral site action at Pepsi Field on Tuesday (Sept. 11).

The Bulldogs jumped on the board early when freshman Pia Nagel scored her team-leading third goal of the season at 4:11 of the contest, on a pass into the goal area by senior Carley Dubbert, who picked up her second assist of the season.

Nagel's goal was also her team leading second game-winning goal of the season.

Ferris State extended the lead to 2-0 at 73:13 when junior Brandi Wagner fired a shot from the left side of the box that darted cross-cage and tucked inside the right goal post for her first goal of the season. Junior Tia VanSuilichem earned her first assist of the year on Wagner's goal.

FSU carried the play for much of the match, outshooting UIS 25-6 for the game, with a 13-6 edge in shots on goal.

In goal, junior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield turned in a strong performance, including a leaping one-handed save to keep the Prairie Stars off the board midway through the second half with the Bulldogs leading 1-0.

Chesterfield finished with six stops for her first shutout and second victory of the season to move to 2-0-0.

For UIS, Paloma Guijarro made 11 saves and took the loss and fell to 0-2-2.

Ferris State begins conference play with a rematch from the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinal on Friday (Sept. 14) on the road against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at 12 p.m. (ET).
