Ferris State Wins School's First GLIAC Soccer Championship To Secure #1 Seed For League Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad has officially claimed the program's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship and will be the number one seed for the league tournament this coming week.

The Bulldogs, who compiled a 7-0-1 overall record in regular-season action, will host eighth-seeded Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday (April 27) at the Bulldog Soccer Field in a quarterfinal-round tilt set to begin at 4 p.m. (ET).

With a win on Tuesday, the Bulldogs would also then play host to the league semifinals and finals this coming weekend. The tournament semifinals are on Friday (April 30) with the championship game on Sunday (May 2).

Ferris State finished league regular-season play as the conference's only unbeaten team this spring, allowing only a single goal the entire campaign under head coach Greg Henson. FSU compiled a league-best average of 5.250 points per game in the point rating system used this spring, topping Ashland's second-place 4.889 figure.

The conference championship is the first in program history for the Bulldogs, who began playing women's soccer in 1999.

The other quarterfinal-round matchups in the GLIAC Tournament on Tuesday include #2 seed Ashland hosting #7 Davenport (2 pm ET) with third-seeded Northern Michigan taking on sixth-seeded Northwood (12 pm) in the Upper Peninsula and finally fifth-seeded Michigan Tech visiting fourth-seeded Grand Valley State (4 pm).

The Bulldogs' league regular-season championship this year snapped Grand Valley State's 15-year run atop the conference. FSU is currently the lone GLIAC school found in the nation's top 25 at #11 overall.

Stay tuned for more information on the GLIAC Tournament as it becomes available.
