Ferris State's Nikki May Receives Recognition As GLIAC Soccer Defensive Player Of The Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the first time this fall, Ferris State University junior defender Nikki May (Brownstown) has earned recognition as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

May becomes the fifth different FSU women's soccer player to receive a league weekly award this year, including the third to earn the defensive nod.

This past weekend, May had a big weekend for the nationally ninth-ranked Bulldogs, who improved to 10-1-2 overall and 7-0-2 in GLIAC play with a pair of home wins. She finished the weekend with a goal and an assist for three points from the back end while helping FSU outscore the opposition 8-2 in nearly 195 minutes of action to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Her goal and assist both came on Friday in FSU's exciting 3-2 double-overtime home win over Northern Michigan. The goal came on a big free kick to the top left corner late in the first half as the Bulldogs tied the game up at a gaol apiece and she later added the assist on Grace VerHage's game-tying tally in the 65th minute to make it a 2-2 contest.

For the weekend, May had a pair of shots with both coming on goal. Her play also helped FSU outshoot Parkside 37-5 on Sunday thanks to a strong defensive performance in the shutout decision.

Ferris State will host Purdue Northwest on Friday (Oct. 22) at 1 p.m. (ET) at the Bulldog Soccer Field before making the long trek to face Michigan Tech on Sunday (Oct. 24) in Houghton.
