Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer squad played its final home contest of the regular season Sunday (Oct. 22) and fell 2-1 in a tight battle with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State University.

FSU also honored Bulldog soccer alumni at halftime of Sunday's match.

The Bulldogs (5-6-4) faced off with the top team in the GLIAC for the second and final time this regular season. GVSU also won the first matchup 2-1 back on Sept. 15.

In Sunday's game, Darya Mosallaei made the start at goalkeeper for the Bulldogs and played the first half, making two saves. Grand Valley State scored twice in the first half, first at 4:25 on the Lakers' first shot of the game. Ryann Fetty tallied her first score of the year to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

GVSU also scored at 25:27 courtesy of Avery Lockwood. Her second goal of the year gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead that they held into halftime.

Lauren Kubacki checked in at goalkeeper for Ferris State in the second half. She made three saves and did not allow a goal.

The Bulldogs scored their lone goal of the afternoon at 67:27 of the second frame. Freshman Katherine Welch scored her seventh goal of the year off a corner kick pass from Lindsay Cole to pull the Bulldogs within one goal.

FSU had a few chances late in the game to score, but strong defense from Grand Valley and big saves from Kendall Roberston sealed the win for the Lakers.

Welch's goal extended her point streak to four games. FSU had four shots on goal and GVSU had seven. Both teams took three corner kicks.

The Bulldogs will play their final three regular season outings on the road, starting with a contest against Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (ET) in Houghton.
