Bulldog Soccer Earns First Win of the Season With 2-1 Victory Over UIndy

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team recorded its first victory of the season with a 2-1 triumph over the University of Indianapolis on Sunday (Sept. 8).

Junior Reese Carmody and senior Annie Hartley were the Bulldog goal scorers. Carmody scored her second goal of the season and Hartley tallied a goal for the first time in her collegiate career.

Carmody scored the first goal of the game two minutes before halftime. Katherine Welch had the assist on Carmody's goal, giving Welch the first point of her sophomore season.

At halftime, the Bulldogs had three shots on goal and UIndy had five. Each team attempted two corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of action.

In the second half, at 49:16, Hartley scored her first collegiate goal, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Brinley Bell assisted, giving her three assists already across two games to start the season. That mark sets a new career-high for single season assists for Bell, and she also leads the team with three points to start 2024.

UIndy cut the lead in half just five minutes later with a goal from Stephanie Brady. Antiya Sidibe assisted.

Neither team scored the rest of the game and the Bulldogs (1-0-1) held on for their first win of the season.  In total, FSU had six shots on goal and four corner kicks. UIndy had eight shots on goal and five corner kicks.

FSU's Morgan Fillion saw action at goalkeeper for Ferris State. In her first collegiate appearance, Fillion had seven saves and allowed one goal. Jenna Taghikhani had four saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes of action for UIndy.

Ferris State will return home for two games this coming week. Findlay will visit Big Rapids on Friday (Sept. 13) at 1 p.m. (ET) tilt before Ashland comes to town Sunday (Sept. 15) for a 1 p.m. (ET) kickoff.
