Ferris State Women's Tennis Caps Big Finish To Fall Season With League Tourney Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad capped off a big fall season by taking fifth place with a victory on Sunday (Oct. 28) in the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament held at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs topped sixth-seeded Lake Superior State by a 4-1 count on the final day of league tournament action. Overall, FSU won two of its three contests at the GLIAC Tourney in Midland.

In Sunday's win over the Lakers, the Bulldogs picked up the lone doubles point by taking the second and third flights in the lineup.

Ferris State then came back in singles action to claim the four, five and six positions to secure the win.

Overall, Ferris State finished the fall season with a 6-6 overall mark under interim head coach Mark Doren. The Bulldogs avenged an earlier 5-2 setback to Lake Superior State during the regular-season with Sunday's win. In addition, FSU's first-round loss to eventual champion Wayne State came on Friday by a 4-2 score, which was the closest match the Warriors had in the conference tournament as they won both their semifinal and championship matches 4-0.

This weekend, the Bulldogs also had two players named to the All-GLIAC Team with senior Nika Hein (Nittel, Germany) garnering first-team recognition from the league's head coaches and senior Nicole Meylor (Wauwatosa, Wis.) picking up honorable mention accolades.

Ferris State finished the fall season by winning three of its final four matches and the Bulldogs were victorious in four of their last six overall.

FSU is tentatively slated to open the spring season on Feb. 10 against Hillsdale in regional road action at 3:30 p.m. (ET) in Hillsdale, Mich.
