Ferris State Women's Tennis Starts Strong At ITA Regional Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad opened play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday (Sept. 14) with strong results in West Michigan.
The Bulldogs began play at 8:30 a.m. (ET) and didn't conclude action until more than 12 hours later with a least one FSU participant in action nearly every minute of the day.
Overall, eight of the Bulldogs' nine competitors earned at least one singles win, including three that represented FSU in the main A draw. FSU was one of only four teams from the region to have three student-athletes advance past the first round out of the 22 Midwest Region schools competing in the field.
The Bulldogs' Ana Hernandez took on one of the top-ranked players in the country in the second round and battled to a close 10-8 setback in the third set of the tightly-contested match.
In doubles play, the Bulldogs' Kennedy Dumas and Maria Hernandez had a big win in the first round of the doubles draw.
The Bulldogs will continue action on Sunday with singles play in the A draw while Dumas and Hernandez will square off in a second-round doubles match later in the day.
