Ferris State Volleyball Wins Fourth-Straight Match With Decisive Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 22nd-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to four-straight matches and maintained a share of first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings by topping Lake Superior State on Friday (Oct. 31) night by a 3-0 count.

The Bulldogs swept the Lakers in the Halloween night clash with a decisive 25-13, 25-10, 25-10 triumph in Sault Ste. Marie. FSU improved to 17-5 overall and 14-1 in league action with the victory.

Ferris State dominated the match, hitting .425 for the night and limiting LSSU to a -.010 showing overall. The Bulldogs had only three errors on 87 total attempts while notching 40 kills on the night.

Meanwhile, the Lakers finished with 27 errors and only 26 kills on 104 attack as FSU won in convincing fashion. LSSU fell to 2-20 overall and 1-13 in the GLIAC with the quick setback.

Thirteen different players saw action in the contest for FSU with the balanced lineup paced by junior hitter Alexis Huntey with eight kills. Junior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer added seven kills with no errors on 11 attempts.

FSU also received six kills from senior Courtney Rehm in addition to five from freshman middle hitter Ayanna Buckley. Fellow freshman Maria Kronner added four kills as did junior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman.

FSU tallied 40 digs with five service aces and four service mistakes in addition to seven solo blocks and 12 assisted blocks at the net.

Sophomore setter Stephanie Sikorski contributed 29 assists and five digs while junior libero Danielle Dowd produced a team-best 11 digs in the contest. Huntey added six digs for FSU with Vander Meer, senior Claire Grawburg, Huntey, Buckley and Kronner each playing a part in three blocks.

Brooklyn Gerber led Lake Superior State with nine kills. Jenna Kilmer totaled six kills in the losing effort for LSSU with Meghan Drobish netting a match-high 14 digs. Janelle Nagy recorded 13 assists.

Overall, the Lakers had 35 digs, but recorded no service aces and no blocks in the match.

Ferris State wraps up its two-match weekend trip by visiting Northwood on Saturday (Nov. 1) for a 5 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Midland. It will mark FSU's final regular-season road contest of the year as the Bulldogs will return home to host Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State next weekend (Nov. 7-8) in their final two matches prior to postseason play.
