
#7 Ferris State Volleyball Completes Weekend Trip With Victory At Northern Michigan
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad, which is ranked seventh in the nation, completed a weekend trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with its perfect record intact as the Bulldogs topped Northern Michigan 3-1 on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon in Marquette.
Ferris State dropped the opening set 25-22 inside Vandament Arena, but rallied for wins of 25-10, 29-27 and 25-19 in the next three frames to claim the match and cap a 2-0 weekend road trip.
With the victory, FSU is now 11-0 overall this season and off to a 4-0 start in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The Bulldogs compiled a .312 attack percentage in the win and finished with 57 kills to go with 68 digs, seven service aces, 12 solo blocks and two block assists.
Senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape recorded a match-high 22 kills for the Bulldogs with freshman Gabby Piazza adding a season-best 12 kills in the effort. A total of six different players had four or more kills for FSU. Offensively, senior setter Kaylee Maat notched 44 assists in directing the attack.
On the defensive end, the Bulldogs were led in digs by senior libero Leah Bylut with 17 overall. Emma Bleecher chipped in with 14 digs and Henneman-Dallape recorded 10 digs for the Bulldogs.
From the service line, Bleecher had two aces for the Bulldogs as did Corrie Wisser and Alana Deshetsky.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs also had a strong day at the net with senior middle hitter Chelsie Freeman recording three solo blocks in addition to three from Henneman-Dallape. Piazza and middle hitter Syann Fairfield both had two solos while Maat netted two solo blocks and two assists.
NMU was limited to a .184 attack percentage and the Wildcats finished with 55 kills, 61 digs, five solo blocks and only two aces. Jacqueline Smith paced Northern Michigan in the Wildcats' first league setback with 19 kills in the match.
Ferris State will wrap up its season-opening 12-match road swing with a non-league tilt on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at Northwood starting at 6 p.m. (ET) in Midland.
FSU then plays its first home contests this coming weekend, hosting Parkside on Friday (Oct. 4) and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Oct. 5) as part of homecoming weekend in Big Rapids with both tilts set for 6 p.m. (ET).
