Ferris State Volleyball Wins NCAA Opener To Advance To Regional Semifinals

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's top-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad started postseason play in impressive fashion as the Bulldogs swept Missouri-St. Louis 3-0 in the NCAA Midwest Regional Quarterfinals on Thursday (Dec. 5) evening at Bulldog Arena.

The top-seeded Bulldogs, who are playing host to the regional tournament, will advance to the regional semifinals on Friday (Dec. 6) night versus fourth-seeded Lewis (Ill.) with match time set for 7 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State captured a 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 win over the visiting Tritons in what was a rematch of last year's regional final won by UMSL in St. Louis.

With the victory, the Bulldogs stayed unbeaten at a nation-best 32-0 overall this year.

The Bulldogs hit .347 overall for the evening, notching 40 kills and only seven attack errors on 95 attempts. FSU also had 20 block assists and two solo blocks to go with 46 digs and five service aces.

Senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape led FSU with 11 kills in the victory and freshman Gabby Piazza added eight kills. Both senior outside hitter Claire Nowicki and senior middle hitter Chelsie Freeman recorded six kills apiece.

FSU senior setter Kaylee Maat recorded 27 assists along with eight digs and three service aces for the Bulldogs. Senior libero Leah Bylut led Ferris State defensively with 15 digs in the victory while Freeman had a team-high six block assists. Fellow senior middle Syann Fairfield finished with four block assists and Maat had three as did Nowicki.

The Bulldogs limited UMSL to only a .020 attack percentage. The Tritons managed 25 kills with 23 attack errors on 102 tries. Additionally, they finished with 42 digs, eight block assists and six service aces in the setback.
