Big Rapids, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its composite football schedule for the 2010 gridiron campaign.  The 2010 NCAA Division II football season kicks off on the weekend of Sept. 2-4.

The season kicks off the weekend of Sept. 2-4 and the opening weekend slate features 10 non-conference contests, including a clash of Division II powers with the CBS College Sports Division II "Game of the Week" pitting West Texas A & M against defending NCAA Division II National Runner-Up Grand Valley State at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale.

The 2010 conference schedule will feature the two newest members of the GLIAC, Lake Erie College and Ohio Dominican University, both of which open league play on Saturday, Sept. 11.  Lake Erie will host Michigan Tech in its inaugural GLIAC game while ODU hosts Northwood in its first-ever GLIAC contest.

GVSU's tough early season schedule continues on Saturday, Sept. 11, when Hillsdale visits Allendale.  The Chargers, 2009 D-II playoff participants, were the only team to defeat the Lakers during the 2009 regular season, recording a 27-24 win in Hillsdale.  Grand Valley State exacted some revenge with a 44-27 win over the Chargers in the second round of the 2009 playoffs.

The GLIAC schedule for Saturday, Oct. 2, also features a matchup of 2009 D-II playoff teams when Saginaw Valley State travels to Hillsdale for a 1 p.m. (EDT) game.  The Cardinals and Chargers renew their rivalry after a two-year hiatus in 2008 and 2009.

The GLIAC regular season schedule wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 13.  That day's slate of games includes the "Battle of the Valleys" when Grand Valley State invades Univ. Center for a clash with Saginaw Valley State in yet another matchup of returning playoff teams.

The first round of the NCAA Playoffs begins on Saturday, Nov. 20, with the NCAA Division II Football Championship game being held on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Alabama.

Ferris State will also face a tough early season schedule as FSU kicks off its 102nd season of varsity competition this fall by venturing to Hillsdale's Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium for a non-conference tilt in week one on Friday, Sept. 3, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (EST).  FSU and Hillsdale are not scheduled to play each other as part of the GLIAC schedule this season.

The Bulldogs, who will play an 11-game regular-season schedule, open GLIAC action the following week against Saginaw Valley State in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Top Taggart Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (EST).

The Bulldogs' 2010 schedule features alternating home and away games throughout the year as FSU will not play consecutive contests either at home or on the road at any point during the campaign.

FSU's second road contest of the season will be on Sept. 18 as the Bulldogs venture to Columbus, Ohio, to face one of the league's two incoming members this fall in Ohio Dominican. The Bulldogs will also play the conference's other new member as they travel to Painesville, Ohio, to face Lake Erie on Oct. 2.

Ferris will host archrival GVSU for the second-straight year in the "Anchor-Bone Classic" on Oct. 23 in Big Rapids.

Ferris State has registered five winning seasons in the last seven years along with nine winning campaigns overall in 15 years under head coach Jeff Pierce. Overall, FSU has put a winning stamp on 14 seasons over the last 21 years.
