Big Rapids, Mich. - A number of special promotional events and
activities are planned once again by Ferris State University
Athletics for the 2010 football campaign as the Bulldogs embark on
their 102nd season of varsity action with five home games this fall
at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
The schedule features a pair of night games during the opening
month of the season on the Mondo Ecofill artificial-playing surface
at Top Taggart Field. Additionally, FSU's home slate features
matchups against two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (GLIAC) teams (Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley
State) which reached the NCAA Division II Playoffs a year ago.
The Bulldogs' 2010 schedule features alternating home and away
games throughout the year as FSU will not play consecutive contests
either at home or on the road at any point during the campaign.
"We're excited about this year's home schedule and the number of
special events we have planned in conjunction with Bulldog football
for this fall," said FSU Associate Athletics Director Jon
Coles. "We look forward to everyone coming out to support
our team and being a part of the exciting gameday atmosphere we are
trying to create."
The Bulldogs will kick off their 2010 home schedule in week two
against Saginaw Valley State under the lights at Top Taggart
Field. Kickoff has been changed to 6 p.m. (EDT) for the
"Honoring American Heroes Day" contest.
As part of the activities for the home opener, FSU will honor
those who serve our country with all first responders such as
police, ambulance, firefighters earning free admission along with
all veterans and current military members. One dollar of each
ticket sold will support the FSU Veterans Student Organization.
The day's activities will begin with a high school contest between
Big Rapids and White Cloud at 1 p.m. (EDT) followed by a Red, White
and Blues event sponsored by FSU Student Government between
games. After the FSU-SVSU contest, a concert will take place
inside the stadium at approximately 9 p.m. (EDT) with the annual
postgame fireworks display following at 9:45 p.m.
The Bulldogs' next home outing comes on Sept. 25 as FSU squares
off against Tiffin for the third time in series' history and
celebrates "Kids Night". FSU's lone win of the 2009 campaign
came in the season opener against the Dragons in Big Rapids.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (EST) and the contest will
represent the first-ever GLIAC contest between the two programs as
they played non-league games against each other the last two
seasons.
"Kids Night" activities will feature such things as a bounce
house, games, prizes and the popular Slip 'n Slide at halftime,
weather permitting. All local youth rocket football players
from Big Rapids, Reed City, Chippewa Hills and Morley-Stanwood will
receive free admission with a paid adult.
The Bulldogs next host Findlay in their following home tilt on
Oct. 9 and the contest will represent FSU's 84th annual
"Homecoming" contest with a 2 p.m. (EST) starting time scheduled
for the contest.
After another week on the road, FSU returns home to take on
defending GLIAC champion and perennial national power Grand Valley
State in its fourth home contest on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m.
(EDT) in Big Rapids. The league matchup will represent the 39th
meeting in the all-time series between the West Michigan archrivals
with the game's winner being presented with the ninth annual Anchor
Bone Trophy sponsored by Huntington Bank. Grand Valley State
concluded the 2009 season as the national runner-up, but the then
top-ranked Lakers narrowly escaped Big Rapids last fall with a
17-10 victory over the Bulldogs in week four of the season.
As part of the FSU-GVSU game, the Bulldogs will take part in
"Paint Big Rapids Pink", a community-wide initiative to help
support breast cancer research in collaboration with the Susan P.
Wheatlake Women's Cancer & Wellness Fund.
FSU will play its final home game of the year on Nov. 6 as the
Bulldogs battle Michigan Tech at Top Taggart Field with kickoff for
the "Senior Day" encounter also set for 2 p.m. (EST). The Bulldogs
will also hold FSU "Parents Appreciation Day" in conjunction with
the home finale as parents of all current Ferris State students are
admitted free.
Tickets for all home games in 2010 will be available at the
stadium prior to kickoff.
