31st Annual Ferris State Football Golf Outing Set For June 7

Big Rapids, Mich. - Registrations are currently being accepted for the 31st annual Ferris State University Football Golf Outing, which will be held Saturday, June 7, at Clear Lake Golf Club near Big Rapids, Mich.

The four-person shotgun golf scramble, which is sponsored by the FSU Gridiron Club in conjunction with the Bulldog Athletic Association (BAA), serves as one of the Ferris State football program's primary fundraising events. The shotgun start will be held on a first-come, first-serve basis with all activities this year taking place at Clear Lake Golf Club.

The Bulldog Football golf outing returns to Clear Lake after a record-breaking year at the course in 2012 followed by a historic 30th anniversary event last summer that featured another strong turnout and created momentum for the fall.  FSU is coming off only the program's second eight-win season in the last 16 years during the 2013 campaign and the annual golf event will help kick off the anticipation for the 2014 campaign.

The golf outing will get underway with registration and lunch on June 7 starting at 11:30 a.m. (ET).  The rules meeting will begin shortly after with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. (ET).  Following golf will be a cocktail hour with the evening dinner served in the clubhouse at Clear Lake at approximately 6:30 p.m. (ET). Door prizes, auction, raffle and awards will follow the evening meal with a social at Buffalo Wild Wings in Big Rapids later in the evening.

A great package of team and individual prizes will be awarded for winners in several divisions.

The cost for this year's event is $100 per player for golf, which also includes greens fees and a power cart, along with lunch, refreshments and a steak dinner.  In addition, several sponsorship packages are available for green and tees along with the driving range.  The cost for those wishing to attend the dinner only is $15.

Contributions and proceeds from the event directly contribute to the continued success of the Ferris State football program.

Individuals are encouraged to submit their registration forms along with complete payment as soon as possible or by May 25 to guarantee participation in the football golf outing. Checks may be made payable to Ferris State University with "Football Outing" in the memo.

The Holiday Inn in Big Rapids has reserved a block of rooms for Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7. The Holiday Inn (231-796-4400) is a full service hotel and will offer the Bulldog Package room rate of $102 per night (double occupancy). It is located across the street from Buffalo Wild Wings. Reservations must be made in advance by May 19 to guarantee the discounted rates by mentioning the Ferris State Football Golf Outing.

Ferris State wrapped up a successful 2013 campaign and the second season under head coach Tony Annese's direction last fall with a 8-3 overall record along with a second-place 8-2 finish in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division standings. FSU narrowly missed receiving the school's first playoff bid in 17 years.

The Bulldogs' eight-win campaign last fall was the school's first since 2006 and only the second in the program's last 16 seasons. Additionally, Ferris State's eight league wins in 2013 were also its most since 1996. FSU's eight league wins in 2013 were also its most since 1996 and the Bulldogs beat rival Grand Valley State for the second consecutive year to hold
onto possession of the Anchor-Bone Trophy.

Recently, FSU also inked a highly-regarded 35-member recruiting class on National Signing Day in February. The talented class of 33 prepsters and two Division I transfers came on the heels of a stellar class a year ago that was labeled as the best in the nation.

The Bulldogs will begin their 106th season of varsity competition this coming fall with their sights set on competing for a potential GLIAC Championship and a NCAA Division II Playoff berth after posting only the program's second eight-win season in the last 16 years during the 2013 campaign. FSU opens the 2014 campaign with a non-league contest at McKendree (Ill.) on Thursday, Sept. 4, before visiting Northwood for their GLIAC opener on Sept. 13 in Midland.

FSU's 2014 home opener at Top Taggart Field will be on Sept. 20 as the Bulldogs entertain archrival Grand Valley State in the Anchor-Bone Classic with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (ET).
