Men's Golf Receives NCAA Tourney Bid

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team will be making its 10th NCAA Tournament Regional appearance in a row as the Bulldogs have earned a trip to Missouri for the 2012 Midwest/South Central Super Regional, which will take place May 7-9 at The Jefferson City Country Club in Jefferson City, Mo. 

The announcement of 80 teams and 32 individual student-athletes for regional competition was released Friday (April 27) by the NCAA-II Men's Golf Selection Committee. 

The Midwest/South Central Regional is being hosted by Lincoln (Mo.) University and will consist of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the South Central Region.  Four individuals from each region will also compete in the 54-hole tournament. 

The top five teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2012 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 15-19 at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival to be hosted by Bellarmine Univeristy and the Louisville Sports Commission. 

Along with number two seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who will be making the super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Northern Kentucky, Indianapolis, Grand Valley State, Bellarmine, Tiffin, Northwood, Ashland, Findlay and Wayne State in respective seeding order. St. Edward's (Texas) is the South Central Region's top seed.

Ferris State, under the direction of head coach Mike Mignano, posted a third-place performance at the 2010 NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 3-5) in Duncan, Okla.  The placing was high enough for the Bulldogs to make their 14th appearance at nationals in the program's history as FSU would register a school-best effort by tying for seventh place in the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.  

A year ago (2011), FSU finished tied for 16th in the super regional competition and failed to advance to the national championships in Georgetown, Ky.

Ferris State placed sixth or better in all four of its fall tournaments this campaign. The Bulldogs currently have three top five tourney finishes to date this spring and have been among the top five squads in all five spring outings.
