FSU's Tyler Robinson To Play In MI Amateur

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf program will have representation in the 101st Michigan Amateur, which takes place next week (June 18-22) at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Bulldog junior Tyler Robinson (Haslett) is among the competitors in the field for the prestigious event at one of Michigan's most recognized clubs.  It is managed by the Golf Association of Michigan and presenting sponsor Carl's Golfland.

Robinson earned a berth into the Michigan Amateur by winning an 18-hole sectional qualifier at Arbor Hills Golf Club back on May 22.  He carded a 67 to earn medalist honors in the 80-golfer field and earn his berth.  His 67 was the second-lowest of more than 1,000 golfers who took part in 15 different qualifiers.

The Michigan Amateur begins on Monday with two days of stroke-play qualifying consisting of 18 holes each on the North Course at Oakland Hills.  The top 64 qualifiers will advance to match play competition with the first and second rounds taking place on Wednesday (June 20).  Third round and quarterfinal matches are set for Thursday (June 21) with the semifinals and finals on Friday (June 22).

Robinson's opening round begins at 2:09 p.m. (ET) on Monday from the first tee at the Oakland Hills Country Club North Course, which is a par 70 layout measuring 6,635 yards.  He will tee off at 7:53 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday for round two from the 10th tee.

A total of 168 players will compete in the event and all were determined by excemptions and sectional qualifying.

The 101st Michigan Amateur returns to Oakland Hills Country Club's North Course for the first time since 1992. As the state's oldest and most prestigious amateur tournament enters its second century, it seems only fitting that the host be a premier course like Oakland Hills CC, which has also played host to 16 Major Championships including six U.S. Opens; two U.S. Senior Opens; a U.S. Men's Amateur; Western Open; Carling World Open; the 35th Ryder Cup in 2004; and three PGA Championships.

Robinson competed in eight tournaments for the Bulldogs during the 2011-12 campaign and twice finished among the top 10 overall.

The Bulldog men's golf squad made their 10th consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearance in a row this past season.  FSU placed tied for 10th at the 2012 NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 7-9) held in Jefferson City, Mo.
