Men's Golf Finishes As Runner-Up Of 29 Regional Teams At The Jewell

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team had another impressive weekend as the Bulldogs claimed runner-up honors in The Jewell held at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.

The event, which served as the third regional tournament of the season, included a total of 29 schools and took place with a single round of action on both Saturday and Sunday (April 5-6).

Ferris State tied for the first-day lead with a 292 score on Saturday before shooting a 304 in the final round to finish at +28 or 596 for the tournament. Malone captured the team championship with a 578 score while Quincy (Ill.) placed third at 598 overall or two strokes behind FSU.

The Bulldogs were led by Sam Stark, who shot a 146 on rounds of 72 and 74 to placed tied for seventh overall. He was followed by Ben Cook and senior Trent Davison, who were both part of a five-way tie for ninth place at 147 for the two rounds.

Cook fired a 72 as well in round one followed by a 75 on the final day while Davison had a one-under par 71 in Saturday's opening 18 holes of action before totaling a 76 on day two.

FSU's Chris Eaton was tied for 75th overall with a 156 showing on rounds of 77 and 79, respectively.

Finally, Zak Kiefer was tied for 120th overall at 166 for the tournaemnt. He shot a 85 and 81 overall in his two rounds of competition.

The Bulldogs will next take part in the NCAA Midwest Regional #4 event slated for Sunday and Monday, April 13-14, at Purgatory Golf Course in Noblesville, Ind.
