Ferris State Men's Golf Receives 12th Consecutive NCAA Tournament Bid

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the 12th consecutive year, the Ferris State University men's golf team has received an official NCAA Tournamet bid and will take part in the 2014 Midwest/Central Super Regional, which will take place May 5-7 at the Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo.

The announcement of 80 teams and 32 individual student-athletes for regional competition was released Friday (April 25) by the NCAA-II Men's Golf Selection Committee.

The Midwest/Central Regional will be hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis and will consist of 10 teams from the Midwest Region along with 10 from the Central Region.  Four individuals from each region will also compete in the 54-hole tournament.

The top three teams and the top two individuals not affiliated with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2014 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships slated for May 19-23 at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. The remaining eight berths into the national championships are allocated based on the regions represented in last year's match/medal portion of the championships with the Midwest/Central Regional slated to receive four berths this year.

Along with number six seed Ferris State, those teams from the Midwest Region who will be making the super regional tourney appearance are top-seeded Malone, Missouri-St. Louis, Grand Valley State, Wayne State, Indianapolis, FSU, Lewis (Ill.), Saginaw Valley State, Ashland and Tiffin in respective seeding order.

Central Oklahoma is the Central Region's top seed and followed by Arkansas Tech, Henderson State (Ark.), Northeastern State (Okla.), Central Oklahoma, Nebraska-Kearney, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Lindenwood (Mo.), Southwestern Oklahoma State and St. Cloud State (Minn.).

Fox Run Golf Club is located only 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis (Mo.) and is situated in the serene hills and valleys of Eureka.

Ferris State, under the direction of head coach Mike Mignano, posted a third-place performance at the 2010 NCAA-II Midwest/South Central Super Regional (May 3-5) in Duncan, Okla.  The placing was high enough for the Bulldogs to make their 14th appearance at nationals in the program's history as FSU would register a school-best effort by tying for seventh place in the 2010 NCAA-II National Championships (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.

A year ago (2013), FSU finished 10th in the super regional competition and failed to advance to the national championships in action at Kenosha, Wis.

This spring, the Bulldogs placed second overall in the Midwest Regional #3 Tourney held in Batavia, Ohio, and are coming off a third-place effort in the GLIAC Spring Invitational held last week in New Albany, Ohio.

Prior to the NCAA Tourney action, the Bulldogs are first slated to host the annual Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (April 26) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
