Ferris State Coach Kyle Wittenbach Among Finalists In Michigan PGA Section Match Play Championship

Lansing, Mich. - Ferris State University men's and women's golf head coach Kyle Wittenbach will compete in the 2019 Michigan PGA Section Match Play Championship presented by the PGA Tour, which will be decided Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 24-25, at the Country Club of Lansing.

The final 16 golfers, including Wittenbach, have advanced from chapter or senior organization match play rounds to battle at the Country Club of Lansing for the Jim Picard Trophy.

Five-time champion Brian Cairns of Fox Hills Learning Center in Plymouth (2014, '13, '11, '10, 1997) leads the field among four former champions in this year's final 16. The other past champions are 2012 winner Lee Houtteman PGA Life Member from Cedar, 2017 champion and Ferris State University alum Scott Hebert from Traverse City Golf & Country Club and 2015 champion Kyle Martin of the Lochmoor Club in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Round of 16 matches and the quarterfinal round will be played on Tuesday, with the semifinals and championship match on Wednesday. A complete bracket and more tournament information can be found at www.michiganpgagolf.com.

Founded in 1908, The Lansing Golf Club was formed by a group of 17 men. In 1920 members acquired 160 acres of land that adjoined the club and Langford, a nationally known golf course architect of the time, was commissioned to develop the new course layout. The Chicago Park Builders were engaged to construct the course, and the new clubhouse which was designed by Samuel Butterworth. In 1921 a new opening and a new name emerged – the Country Club of Lansing.

In 1999 a $7 million renovation to the clubhouse helped the club continue to provide a traditional country club lifestyle for its membership, their families and guests. The course plays to a maximum of 6,889 yards from the championship tee positions.

The Michigan PGA Match Play Championship dates to 1980 and is considered one of the four major Michigan PGA championships along with the Michigan Open, Michigan PGA Professional Championship and Tournament of Champions.
