Ferris State Golf Teams Both Hold Opening Day Lead At Panther Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams got off to a strong start on Saturday (Oct. 15) as both teams earned the first-day lead following round one action at the Panther Invitational held in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldog men's team shot an impressive 287 score and finished +3 for the opening round at the Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta. FSU holds a 14-shot lead over Wisconsin-Parkside, which netted a 301 score in the first round. A total of 10 teams are in the field.

Ferris State's Nathan Kraynyk and Zach Koerner both are tied for first place overall after the first round as each shot a one-under 70 score on the par 71 layout. Adam Arif Madzri is tied for third (73) with Caleb Bond tied for fourth (74) and Daniel Shattuck tied for ninth (75).

Additionally, the Bulldogs' Shayne Beaufait competed as an individual and is tied for 18th with a first-round 76 figure.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs posted a 302 team total in the opening round and own a five-shot edge over host Davenport, which fired a 307 score on the par 72 Stonehedge Golf Club North course. The women's field consists of nine teams with the Bulldogs owning the lead after a +14 total on day one.

FSU's Kamryn Shannon shot even-par with a 72 on Saturday and is tied for first individually with Dani Staskowski third in the field with a one-over 73 total. The Bulldogs' Alayna Eldred is tied for ninth (78) with Elaina DeRose tied for 14th (79) and Abby Grevel tied for 31st (85). Ferris State's Lauren Kempf competed individually and is also tied for 31st (85).

Action is slated to wrap up on Sunday for both the men's and women's competitions in Augusta.
