Ferris State Men's Golf Advances To GLIAC Championship Finals!

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team advanced to the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship match with a strong performance again on Saturday (April 13) in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldogs concluded the 36-hole stroke play portion of the league championships in third place overall on Saturday morning to advance to the semifinals as one of the top four squads.

In the head-to-head medal match play semifinals, Ferris State beat Wayne State by a 3-2 score to move into Sunday's championship match versus rival Grand Valley State, which topped Saginaw Valley State by a 3-1-1 score. The league final on Sunday is set to begin with tee times starting at 10 a.m. (ET).

This year marks the fifth consecutive time in which the Bulldogs have reached at least the semifinal round at the league men's golf championships.

The Bulldogs opened up play in the league event on Friday sitting in second place after round one following a first-round 290 figure. FSU then came back on Saturday morning with a 296 team score in round two to finish at 586 overall or +18 for the two rounds, coming in behind only GVSU (-11) and Wayne State (+15) among the nine competing schools.

In the stroke play portion of the league championships, Ferris State was led by Nathan Kraynyk, who took sixth place overall with a 144 score on rounds of 74 Friday and 70 on Saturday. The Bulldogs' McCoy Biagioli and Sam Havey both tied for 13th on the leaderboard with 147 scores. Biagioli shot a 72 in the opening round and a 75 on day two while Havey came in with scores of 71 Friday and 76 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, FSU's Zach Koerner notched a 148 total for a share of 17th place, posting a 75 in the second round after opening with a 73 in the first 18 holes of play. Finally, Caleb Bond finished tied for 25th in stroke play at 152, shooting scores of 74 and 78 in rounds one and two, respectively.

In the medal match semifinals, the Bulldogs got two-shot wins from Biagioli and Kraynyk to go with a one-shot win by Bond to seal the victory.

The event is being held again this year in Augusta, Mich., with action at the Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort near Battle Creek on the Stoatin Brae Golf Club course. The par 71 course measured at 6,742 yards.

The 2024 GLIAC Championships continued the format established four years ago with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play. The head-to-head medal match play bracket format for the semifinals and finals is similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships.

Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort has become one of the largest golf resorts in the World, featuring six championship courses in one amazing destination. Golfers can play 18 holes a day for six days, without ever playing the same hole twice.

Overall, the Bulldog men's golf squad has captured 21 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships in school history and won back-to-back medal match play league titles in 2019 and 2021 (no tournament was held in 2020) before earning runner-up honors in 2022.
