Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 5-1 to the nationally #14 ranked Minnesota State Mavericks Saturday (Jan. 28) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play inside Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs got a goal out of senior forward Jason Brancheau, who has three in his last three games for Ferris State.

After a scoreless deadlock through 20 minutes, the Mavericks pushed in front on the power play at 1:47 of the second period for a 1-0 lead on David Silye's goal from the low slot.

Moments later, Brancheau sprang free on a breakaway where he shelved his team-leading eighth goal of the year to tie the game at 1-1, going short side high to beat Maverick goaltender Keenan Rancier. Junior forward Mitch Deelstra (6) and senior defenseman Blake Evennou (11) earned helpers on Brancheau's goal.

The Mavericks scored twice in the next minute, when Jake Livingstone potted the game-winner at 4:25, followed 11 seconds later by Connor Gregga to make it a 3-1 score.

In the third period, a four-man screen in front of Ferris State junior goaltender Logan Stein gave Christian Fitzgerald time to score to give the Mavericks a 4-1 lead. Ryan Sandelin capped the game scoring at 14:23 for the 5-1 final.

The Bulldogs finished 0-3 on the power play while the Mavericks went 1-2. In goal, Rancier made 14 saves in Minnesota State victory. Stein made 22 stops for Ferris State in the defeat.

Ferris State hits the road to take on Bowling Green to wrap the season series with the Falcons on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3-4) in Ohio. Both games are set for 7:07 p.m. (ET).
