Bulldogs Settle For Split With Beavers Saturday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 6-2 to the Bemidji State Beavers for a weekend split on Saturday (Feb. 11) in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play inside Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State got a goal out of senior co-captain Brenden MacLaren in the effort, while the Bulldogs remain one point out of the final home-ice spot following the weekend.

The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Lleyton Roed (4:55) and Elias Rosen (18:19) in the first period before the Bulldogs managed to turn the tide.

Ferris State got back within a goal when freshman defenseman Travis Shoudy scored his first collegiate goal at 2:44 of the second period when he laced a shot from the left point off the right goal post and in. Ferris State sophomore forward Nick Nardecchia picked up his sixth assist of the year on the goal to make it 2-1 Beavers.

The Beavers managed a quick three-goal run in the second period, starting at 14:58 when Jackson Jutting scored to make it 3-1 BSU. Alexander Lundman (16:02) and Kaden Pickering (16:34) followed him up to make it a 5-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Early in the third period, the Bulldogs got back on the board when MacLaren scored on a five-on-three power play for his third goal of the year. Ferris State junior forward Stepan Pokorny picked up his 14th assist of the year and 20th point on the set up, while fellow junior forward Antonio Venuto earned his seventh helper of the year on the play.

Bemidji State concluded the scoring at 19:10 when Aaron Myers scored for the 6-2 final.

Ferris State sophomore goaltender Noah Giesbrecht made 18 saves through 40 minutes and was relieved in goal by junior goaltender Logan Stein, who made five relief saves. Mattias Sholl made 19 saves for the Beaver victory in the BSU net.

On the power play, Ferris State finished 1-5. Bemidji State had just two chances, but scored on both. The Beavers won the shots on goal battle 29-21.

Ferris State heads north to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 17-18) inside the Berry Events Center.
