Marquette, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats 8-3 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the Berry Events Center.
Northern Michigan took the lead on a net front scramble when Colby Enns scored at 2:56 of the opening period for a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Ferris State scored on the power play to even the contest when freshman defenseman Travis Shoudy scored his second of the year at 4:41 of the opening period. Freshman forward Tyler Schleppe (5) and senior defenseman Blake Evennou (14) added assists on the play.
The Wildcats went on a run to go up 8-1. They scored on the power play at 11:04 (Andre Ghantous), even strength at 15:07 (Jett Jungels), on the power play in the second at 5:08 (Simon Kjellberg), even strength back-to-back at 12:17 (Rylan Van Unen) and 18:05 (Josh Zinger), and back-to-back power play tallies in the third at 3:32 (Kristof Papp) and 10:12 (Ghantous).
Ferris State rallied for two late goals, at even strength when Shoudy scored his second of the night at 11:48 for his third goal of the season. Freshman forward Connor McGrath (6) and senior forward Jacob Dirks (4) added assists on the goal.
To cap the scoring, Schleppe banged in a one-timer at 18:32 for his ninth goal of the year from sophomore forwards Nick Nardecchia (7) and Bradley Marek (8) for the 8-3 final.
Ferris State was out-shot 34-24 for the game and finished 1-5 on the power play while Northern Michigan went 4-6.
Ferris State wraps the regular season at home February 24-25 with Lake Superior State in town. Friday is set for 7:07 p.m. (ET) with Saturday set for 5:07 p.m. 9ET) with senior night before the weekend finale followed by an open to the public senior recognition ceremony Saturday following the contest.
