FSU Teams Finish In Top Five At Pre-Nationals
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and
women's cross country teams ran to top-five place team finishes on
Saturday (Sept. 26) at the Division II Pre-National Invitational
hosted by the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville.
The Bulldog women's team placed third overall in the nine-team
women's field on the USI Cross Country Course, which will be the
site of the Division II National Championships in November.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog men's team came in fifth overall in a field
featuring 11 teams.
Individually, Bulldog junior Tina Muir was the
women's individual winner in the 6K race as she clocked 21:48.22 to
place ahead of the other 74 runners competing in the event.
She finished nearly 21 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Mary
Ballinger of Southern Indiana.
FSU freshman Anna Rudd took sixth place overall
(23:01.52), junior Megan Josey finished 23rd
(23:53.84), freshman Alyssa Osika was 25th
(23:58.69) followed by junior Paige Onweller in
27th place (24:03.60).
Freshman Shelby Janutol would up 36th (24:33.31),
freshman Jordan McGuire came in 42nd (24:49.14),
freshman Felicia Peacock took 45th overall
(24:56.80).
On the men's side, the Bulldogs were paced by sophomore
Tyler Crossman's 16th-place effort
(26:37.21). Senior Curtis Begley was 17th
(26:37.34), junior Alex Best captured 30th place
(27:18.64), sophomore Steve Neshkoff took 31st
place (27:19.65), freshman Ryan Chute placed 45th
(27:50.52), senior Brian Reynolds took 48th place
(27:58.54) and freshman Josh Kyser was 55th
(28:14.12). Junior Derek Childs wound up 66th
(28:48.80) in the field of 99 men's runners.
The men's individual winner was Daniel Kirwa of Harding in a time
of 24:35.53 on the 8K course.
Stonehill College took the men's team crown with 42 points followed
by Southern Indiana (69), Harding (98), Abilene Christian (106) and
the Bulldogs (134) in the top five.
Ferris' women tallied 82 points and placed behind the University of
Tampa (29) and Southern Indiana (56).
The Bulldog men's and women's cross country teams are next
tentatively slated to take part in the Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian
Rosa Open on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Kenosha, Wis.
