Ferris State Men First & Women Second At Annual Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads had strong showings as the Bulldogs hosted the 42nd annual Ray Helsing Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 10) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

The FSU men's squad took first place overall in the team race with 20 total points as the top seven Bulldog runners placed in the top 17 scoring spots. Saginaw Valley State came in second (45) with Davenport third (103), Hope fourth (108) and Wayne State fifth (113) in the final standings.

The Bulldog men were led by Logan Hammer, who captured first place in a time of 26:14.5 on the 8K course. FSU captured the top four spots overall as he was followed by Trevor Holowaty in the runner-up position with a time of 26:26.9.

Ferris State's Kyle Richardson came in third overall at 26:37.7 with Casey Neal placing fourth at 26:39.1 to help lead the Bulldogs.

FSU also had two other runners in the top 20 with Damien Halverson taking 14th place (26:57.0) and Hunter Nivison finishing 18th (27:37.9).

In the women's competition, Hope placed first with 31 points and the Bulldogs claimed runner-up honors with a total of 57 points. Saginaw Valley State was third (70), Wayne State fourth (95) and Davenport fifth (131).

FSU's scorers in the race were led by Kathryn Etelamaki, who finished seventh overall on the 5K course in a time of 19:21.9. Kensington Garvey also nearly placed in the top 10 as she took 11th place with a clocking of 19:32.3.

Racheal McDonald came in 13th for FSU (19:47.2) with Kelly Babcock 15th (19:58.1), Jessica Delaney 16th (20:06.5) and Jordan Lee 19th (20:13.6).

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 16, as they compete in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.
