Ferris State's Logan Hammer Earns GLIAC Honor After Season-Opening Race

Big Rapids, Mich. - It's only one race into the season, but a Ferris State University men's cross country runner has already received league-wide acclaim as FSU's Logan Hammer (Evart) was tabbed as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week.

Hammer opened the 2016 campaign in a big way as he won the individual championship at the 42nd annual Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 10) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids. His performance helped the Bulldogs also claim the team championship in the season-opening event on the home course.

The Bulldog senior clocked 26:14.6 in the 8k race and was the first of four Bulldogs to finish in the top four spots on the final leaderboard. Hammer was the runner-up in the same race a year ago and bettered his time by more than 40 seconds in this year's race.

Ferris State will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 16, as the Bulldogs compete in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.
