Ferris State Cross Country Teams Wrap Up Fall At NCAA Regional Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country squads wrapped up their fall seasons as both teams competed in the 2017 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday (Nov. 4) in Cedarville, Ohio.

The Bulldog women's team took 12th place in a large field with more than 30 schools while the men placed 14th overall in the regional competition at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. The regional was hosted by Cedarville University.

In the women's race, Ferris State compiled 300 total points with the top five runners also placing among the top 75 scorers in the event.

Bulldog sophomore Kathryn Etelamaki led the FSU women with a 20th-place finish on the 6K course in a time of 22:03.2. She was follwed by Kelly Babcock, who came in 67th overall at 23:25.5.

The Bulldogs' Carissa Schurr was next in line in 70th place with a clocking of 23:28.1. She was followed by the duo of Natalie Perry and Jordan Lee, who placed 73rd and 74th, respectively. Perry timed 23:32.9 and Lee clocked 23:33.7 in the race.

Ferris State's Sydney Dawes came in 90th (23:35.1) with Abigail Johnson 91st (23:53.6).

On the men's side, FSU tallied 436 total points. Senior Trevor Holowaty led the way for FSU as he placed 10th overall in a time of 31:39.3 on the 10K course.

Behind Holowaty for the Bulldogs was Damien Halverson, who placed 64th in the field by clocking 33:18.6 in the race. Freshman Mark Jacobs placed 92nd in 33:50.4 for the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, Zach McKenzie finished 140th overall at 34:44.0 with Aaron Jarma placing 152nd (35:01.8) and John Alberts taking 159th place (35:29.7). Finally, Casey Neal wound up 166th (35:56.4).

The regional competition wrapped up the fall season for the Bulldogs, who will now turn to the track with the indoor season beginning in December.
