Ferris State Women's Basketball To Make Fourth-Straight GLIAC Tournament Appearance

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad will take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament for the fourth consecutive year as the Bulldogs travel to face Parkside on Tuesday (March 2) night for a league first-round game in Kenosha, Wis.

The ninth-seeded Bulldogs will square off against the eighth-seeded Rangers at DeSimone Gymnasium with tipoff slated for 4 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State owns a current 6-12 overall record to date this season under first-year head coach Kurt Westendorp. Meanwhile, Parkside heads into the opening round with an 9-9 overall ledger.

Earlier this year, the two teams split a league regular-season series with a pair of high-scoring and tightly-contested matchups at FSU's Jim Wink Arena with the Rangers winning the opener on Jan. 15 by a 86-82 score and FSU taking the rematch the following day on Jan. 16 by a score of 91-89.

Tuesday's game will be carried live by local flagship station Sunny 97.3 FM and the Bulldog Sports Network with Rob Bentley providing the play-by-play coverage starting with the pregame show at 3:30 p.m. (ET). Parkside will also provide a live video webcast along with live internet statistics. Per GLIAC COVID-19 protocols, no fans will be allowed for any round of the GLIAC Tournament this season.

This year, all 12 teams earned berths into the GLIAC Tournament. Four first-round games will be played on Tuesday with the winners advancing to the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals set for Thursday (March 4) in Westville, Ind. The semifinals are slated for Friday evening and the championship game is on Sunday in Indiana. Purdue Northwest will host the final three rounds of the league tournament later this week with the women playing in Westville and the men in Hammond.

The other first-round matchups in the GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday include 12th-seeded Lake Superior State visiting fifth-seeded Wayne State, #11 Purdue Northwest venturing to #6 Ashland along with #10 Davenport headed to #7 Northern Michigan. The top four seeded teams all received opening round byes, including #1 Michigan Tech, #2 Grand Valley State, #3 Northwood and #4 Saginaw Valley State. The remaining teams will be reseeded following Tuesday's first-round.

The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament slated to be held March 12-15 in Springfield, Mo.

Ferris has posted a 11-16 overall record in 17 previous league women's basketball tournament appearances and will be making its fourth-straight appearance in the field after making its first since the 2012-13 campaign back in 2018. FSU has finished as the tournament runner-up three times and reached the semifinal round in eight of its 17 previous trips to the league event.

Last year, the Bulldogs narrowly fell 78-76 at home to Wayne State in the quarterfinal round after claiming the GLIAC North Division Championship. FSU went on to receive the school's first NCAA Division II Tournament berth since 2012 before the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
