Ferris State Women's Golf Finishes Up Action At Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic

The Ferris State University women's golf team completed action at the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic this Sunday (April 11) as the Bulldogs placed 15th overall in the final results with a three-round 981 team score on the par 72, 5,817-yard Arlington Club course in Richmond, Ky.

The Bulldogs' 981 stroke total represented a team single-season best for 54 holes, eclipsing the 985 score turned in by Ferris State at the Michigan State Mary Fossum Invitational last fall (Sept. 12-13).  FSU, the lone NCAA Division II participant in the tournament, recorded rounds of 322, 335, and 324 to finish at plus 117 in the two-day event (April 10-11).  Morehead (Ky.) State won the tourney with a first-place 905 score (+41) followed by Memphis (909, +45) and Arkansas State (913, +49).  Anna Carling of Arkansas State earned medalist honors with a six-over par 222-stroke total.

Sophomore Bryce Hetchler (Clinton Township/Fraser) led Ferris State as she tied for 51st place by firing a 244 score (78-84-82=244, +28).  Sophomore Blaize Baumgartner (Perry) and freshman Ashley Swanson (Flushing/Flint Powers Catholic Central) produced the next two best scores for the Crimson and Gold.  Baumgartner carded a 247 (78-86-83=247, +31) to place among seven individuals for 59th place while Swanson turned in a 249 (84-87-78=249, +33) to be one of eight golfers to tie for 71st-place honors.

Sophomore Brooke Rodes (Traverse City/West) garnered 85th place as a result of shooting a 253 score (82-86-85=253, +37).  Fellow sophomore Erin Fuchik (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley) earned a share of 91st place after registering a 256-stroke total (96-79-81=256, +40).

Ferris State returns to the links next weekend, April 18-19, at the Tiffin Lady Dragon Invitational in Tiffin, Ohio.  The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio.
