FSU Women's Golf Earns NCAA Regional Bid

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the 10th consecutive time, Ferris State University will be represented at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Super Regionals as the Bulldogs earned a postseason berth to the 2011 Super Regional One (East Region) as announced Monday (April 25) by the NCAA-II Women's Golf Committee.
FSU will make its 10th straight NCAA-II Regional Tournament appearance after making its debut back in the 2001-02 season with a third-place showing. To date, the Bulldogs have won a regional tourney twice (2003-04 and 2006-07) while attaining runner-up honors on four occasions (2004-05, 2005-06, 2007-08, and 2008-09).
Ferris State is among nine teams who will playing in the 2011 East Super Regional from May 1-3 at the Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon, Pa. California University of Pennsylvania will be hosting the Super Regional One Tournament.
The Bulldogs, who are coached by fourth-year head coach Mike Mignano, are seeded seventh among the East Region teams. Grand Valley State is the top seed while Ashland and host California (Pa.) are the second and third seeds, respectively. Missouri-St. Louis is fourth and Drury is seeded fifth. The remainder of the East Region field is comprised of sixth-seed Indianapolis, seventh-seed FSU, number eight seed Gannon along with ninth-seeded Findlay. Four individuals will also take part.
Last season, Ferris State placed seventh overall in the 2010 NCAA-II Super Regional One Championships (May 2-4) in Springfield, Mo.
Ferris State previously earned second-place honors at the 2009 NCAA-II East Regional as a result of generating a three-round 960-stroke total at the Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon The Bulldogs, who qualified for the national tournament with their runner-up performance in '09, recorded rounds of 320, 321, and 319 to finish 96 strokes over par and second to regional champion Grand Valley State (918, +54).
Each super regional will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not affiliated with a team from each super regional, will advance to the national championships.
The 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will be hosted by Grand Valley State and are slated for May 11-14 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich. The 2011 championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day's total score. A total of 72 individuals qualify for the national tournament.
Ferris State placed third overall at this past weekend's (April 22-23) GLIAC Championships hosted by Ashland University at the Country Club of Ashland (Ohio). The Bulldogs finished with a three-round total of 1,004 strokes (+14) in placing behind champion GVSU and runner-up Ashland.
