Women's Golf Competes Against Strong Field

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team stepped up a level in competition as the Bulldogs were the lone non-Division I school to compete in the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State this weekend (Sept. 17-18) in East Lansing, Mich.

The three-round event was held at Forest Akers East Golf Course and played from the championship tees.

The Bulldogs placed 12th overall in the field with a total of 991 for the three rounds, which included team scores of 319, 328 and 344, respectively.

Host Michigan State placed first at 892 with Ohio State second (907) and Michigan third (910) in the draw.

FSU's highest finisher was sophomore Emily Rohdy, who tied for 40th individually with a three-round mark of 239.  She shot her low score of 75 in the second round and also had rounds of 81 and 83 for the event.

Senior Blaize Baumgartner tied for 54th with a score of 247 on rounds of 79, 80 and 88.  She was followed by sophomore Jacqueline DeBoer, who carded a 252 for a share of 61st place.

Senior Bryce Hetchler placed 63rd with a 253 and senior Brooke Rodes rounded out the Bulldog lineup in 66th place with 269 for the tournament.

Ferris State will host its own Bulldog Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24-25, at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
